New tenancy rules came into effect today for evictions, pets, and a fee-free way to pay the rent.
Amity Lynch shared her story of being a Sydney renter who went from putting in her first submission to the rental law review in 2016, to being an active campaigner for law reform to make renting fair for all.
Advocates and supporters attended and spoke – from Tenants Advice and Advocacy Services of the Hunter, Western Sydney, Inner Sydney; from Sydney Alliance, Shelter NSW, Hunter Community Alliance, Australian Services Union and more; current and former Tenants' Union board and staff.
Kobi Shetty, State Member for Balmain, represented the Greens to celebrate the milestone and stress that abolishing no-grounds evictions is the basis for all the other necessary improvements to the law renters need.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore sent a message of support. Our CEO Leo Patterson Ross was also interviewed on ABC News TV about the changes.
